In Middlebury, a green energy nonprofit has been given permission to lease an acre of town property to use as a solar farm.
Middlebury’s Select Board unanimously approved a plan for Acorn Energy One Solar to build a 650-panel solar farm.
The farm is expected to generate more than 170,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year for the next 25 years.
Developers say that’s enough energy to power 30 homes.
Environmentalists applaud the plan. They say these kinds of renewable energy projects will make Vermont communities increasingly sustainable.
The state is currently drafting a comprehensive energy plan that will set goals for reducing fossil fuel use.
