The weak economy is a factor in the Milton school board’s decision not to continue with a planning process that could add an addition to the junior and senior high school.

The board had considered the addition as a way to eliminate the need for two portable classrooms. Officials are also looking for a permanent solution to end a mold problem in the elementary school.

In 2006 a district committee began looking at building needs.

But then it cost $1.2 million to deal with the mold.

Engineers told officials a permanent fix to the mold problem would cost $4.7 million.

Now Superintendent Martin Waldron says it’s not the time to embark on building projects. But he says it’s possible the ideas will be revived in the future.
