If you’ve been seeing more young faces around Vermont lately, it may not be just your imagination.

A new study by the University of New Hampshire says Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine all saw increases in the number of young people living within their borders from 2004 to 2006.

The UNH study says New Hampshire is showing early signs of reversing a trend of young people moving away. But the same study shows the state still lags behind the rest of the nation in the number of young residents.

New Hampshire remains one of the oldest states in the nation with people age 25 to 34 representing less than 12 percent of the population, placing the state at 46th.

New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine all saw increases in the number of young people from 2004 to 2006 while the rest of New England saw steep declines, especially in Massachusetts where the number of young people dropped by over 50,000 or 5.8 percent.
