A man who allegedly beat a 79-year-old woman to death in her Woodstock home last month has pleaded not guilty.

Fifty-one-year-old Charles "Punky" Haynes is accused of second-degree murder in the July 1 death of Raynetta Woodward, who was found dead in her trailer of blunt trauma.

A judge ordered Haynes held on $250,000 bail Wednesday at his arraignment in Vermont District Court in White River Junction.

Prosecutor Robert Sand says a bloody hammer was found at the scene.

Haynes was arrested in a field 30 yards from Woodward’s home and originally named as a person of interest in her death.
