N.H. officials expect increase in deer hunters this year

There are more deer in the woods in New Hampshire, and, perhaps, more hunters looking for them.

Final figures for this year’s deer license sales aren’t in yet, of course, but last year the state Fish and Game Department sold a few more licenses than the year before.

Fish and Game officials say they’d like to think it was the reversal of a decade’s long decline in hunting in the state.

They say that so far this season the increasing deer population and the good weather have made for successful hunting. Hunters have registered almost 50 percent more deer carcasses through late October than in the same period last year

Wednesday will be the start of the firearm deer season, the most popular hunting season of the year.
