New Hampshire regulators will hold hearings starting next week on proposed rate increases for several small telephone companies.

TDS Telecommunications Corporation has asked to raise rates for two telephone companies it operates: Merrimack County Telephone Company and Kearsarge Telephone Company.

If approved, rates would increase by more than ten percent a year.

Regulators want to know if customers have competitive alternatives.

Hearings will be held October fourth at Kearsarge Regional High School in Sutton and October tenth at Hopkinton High School.
