N.H. Republicans appeal voter information list decision

The New Hampshire Republican Party has appealed a judge’s decision that allows the Democratic Party to keep the money it made from selling a voter information list.

The legal wrangling followed Judge Carol Ann Conboy’s decision in November to strike down a new law that allowed the state to sell the information to major political parties. Since then, there was disagreement over what to do about lists that already had been sold.

In appealing Conboy’s decision to the state Supreme Court, the Republicans said the Democrats should not have profited from selling the voter file which was assembled using taxpayer dollars, because it contained information that was released by the secretary of state under a law later found unconstitutional.

The Democrats had used some of the information to supplement files on voters it had compiled over the years.
