The New Hampshire chapter of the National Education Association will announce today that it has endorsed Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton and Republican Mike Huckabee in their respective presidential primaries.

This is the first time the 16,000-member group has endorsed a Republican candidate.

The union hasn’t made the endorsement public yet, but sources told The Associated Press that Huckabee made quite an impression with his stand on education issues, retirement and health care. Huckabee was the only Republican who attended the NEA’s state convention this year.

Clinton reached out to the union at its annual convention in March, saying the federal No Child Left Behind law has failed because it hasn’t been funded properly, administered correctly or implemented appropriately.
