The National Gardening Association is staying in Vermont – it’s just changing the scenery.
After a decade in South Burlington, the association is moving to Williston by mid-February.
The organization is leaving South Burlington-owned Wheeler Nature Park, as well as a partnership to develop the natural area. The park has some themed gardens, trails, and an Abenaki wigwam; there were plans for additional gardens and an event barn.
The association leases 14 acres and the farm house from the city for $1 a year. But association Vice President Elizabeth Metraux tells the Burlington Free Press it’s spent more than $450,000 on property improvements.
Metraux said the move will allow the association to focus on its core mission of promoting backyard and school gardens, local food production and environmental sustainability.
