New garden to remember crime victims in Montpelier

Victims of crime and their families now have a place where they can go in Montpelier to remember those whose lives were affected by crime.

The Courage in Bloom Memorial Garden was dedicated Friday after five years of fundraising and generous gifts of time and talent.

The project was the dream of Nina Ward, whose mother was murdered in Vermont.

The ashes of Ward’s mother are buried overseas. But that left Ward and her family without a place in Vermont to visit and remember her.

Ward visited similar gardens in other states.

Ward says the garden reflects the connectedness of Vermont and how people are able to celebrate and grieve together.

The garden is within view of the Vermont State House.
