New Hampshire officials look at Verizon cell tower placement

Two New Hampshire officials are trying to find out if Verizon Wireless is trying to locate cell towers in their state to serve Vermont’s Interstate 91.

Senator Peter Burling of Cornish and Bath Executive Councilor Ray Burton say it could be a way for Verizon to avoid Vermont’s permitting process, which some consider to be rigorous.

Verizon Wireless has developed, or is seeking approval for a number of new towers in New Hampshire along the Connecticut River, which is the border with Vermont.

Interstate 91 runs along the western edge of the river in Vermont.

Verizon attorney Thomas Hildreth says the company is in the process of locating towers in Vermont as well.

Burling and Burton are planning a meeting for next week.
