A new report says New Hampshire ranked second in the country in addressing the problem of homeless children. Vermont ranks tenth.

The report released today by the National Center on Family Homelessness says most states have inadequate plans to deal with the worsening and often-overlooked problem.

The report says one of every 50 American children has experienced homelessness and warns that the problem is getting worse because of foreclosures and job losses resulting from the deepening recession.

Other New England states also got high marks in how they deal with the problem.

The top state was Connecticut. Louisiana was at the bottom.
