A 54-year-old Exeter Democrat is being inaugurated governor of New Hampshire and holding an open house at the Statehouse to greet the public today.

Maggie Hassan is taking the oath of office this afternoon.

The former Senate majority leader and business attorney lost her re-election bid to the Senate in a Republican sweep in 2010. But she beat Republican Ovide Lamontagne in November to win the governor’s office.

Hassan’s inauguration will be at noon and feature poetry, prayer and music.

Democratic Gov. John Lynch retired after four, two-year terms.
