The new head of New Hampshire’s Retirement System has resigned, less than five months after taking the job.
Constance Donovan took over the public pension system in April. She notified the board of trustees by letter on Thursday that she is leaving in 90 days.
The system oversees benefits for 20,000 retired teachers, firefighters, police and other public workers. The plan has another 53,000 active workers at the state and local level.
Gov. John Lynch’s spokesman, Colin Manning, said the governor was surprised by the decision. He said the governor was told Donovan will help make a smooth transition over the next three months.
