BELLOWS FALLS (AP) _ A veteran police chief from Cornwall, N.Y., will become the new leader of the village police department. The village trustees offered the job to Russell “Rusty” O’Dell, who will take over as soon as he can make the move to Vermont. O’Dell worked at the Cornwall Police Department for 23 years, the last four as chief. He retired there last year. Village Trustee Stefan Golec says O’Dell plans to be a “working chief,” who will actively patrol the streets with his officers. The village police department has faced budget and staffing challenges and was censured by the state earlier for misusing a police computer system.
