A law proposed in New York state would impound all-terrain vehicles operated in ecologically sensitive areas of the state. Those areas would include the northern Adirondacks and the Long Island Pine Barrens.

The bill would empower environmental conservation officers and local police to immediately impound ATVs operating in the areas. Operators found guilty would also pay a $100 surcharge and any storage fees. The law would assign the fines to help pay for enforcement.
