Governor Peter Shumlin says he’s going to ask the Legislature to expand public access to information about criminal cases.  In March, voters in Burlington will vote on a resolution that would oppose the shipment of tar-sands oil across the northeastern sections of the state. As VPR’s Kirk Carapezza reports, environmental activists want voters to put the issue on Town Meeting Day ballots in their towns. The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife says wardens have broken up an unlicensed captive hunting facility in Fairlee. They say that’s where people paid up to $6 thousand to hunt exotic animals such as buffalo and Texas dall sheep. Vermont State Police are looking for a man suspected of trying to kidnap a girl waiting for a school bus in Westminster. In New Hampshire tax receipts for December are $30 million above estimates, thanks to payments expected in other months.
