Members of the Vermont Senate will meet in an unusual "joint caucus" later this hour to talk about the controversy of the Green Mountain Power-Central Vermont Public Service merger. A business group is complaining that a proposed tax increase on the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant sends the wrong message to companies doing business in Vermont. Legislators are also looking at another tax issue: Whether the 6 percent state sales tax should be imposed on transactions "in the cloud." State officials say there continues to be a very high danger level for grass and brush fires.
