NH car pooling increases with gas prices

Rising gas prices have boosted car pooling in New Hampshire.

The state’s Rideshare program, which matches residents with others who share destinations and schedules, has seen a 60 percent increase since November.

Last fall, about 1,000 people were enrolled. Now, enrollment is more than 1,600. Spokeswoman Joan Clinton points to the high price of gasoline and stepped up marketing by the state.

Those who register are e-mailed all the possible options for alternate transportation, including contact information of people with similar commutes and bus schedules from the state’s 25 park-and-ride lots.
