Tossing VCRs or DVD players into New Hampshire landfills would be banned under a bill a Walpole lawmaker plans to file this month.

Democrat Tara Sad, chairwoman of the House Environment and Agriculture Committee, says the bill not only would increase recycling but could create economic opportunities given than so-called e-waste recycling is an up-and-coming industry.

The state has banned computers and TVs from landfills since 1997. Last year, the House rejected a bill that would have created a state e-waste recycling program as too complicated and costly.

Electronics are filled with materials that can be harmful to humans and the environment when burned or simply left in landfills.
