NH Dems vote down creating income tax commission

New Hampshire Democrats at their annual convention overwhelmingly voted against creating a commission that would look into establishing a state income tax, but they agreed to support consideration of "all potential sources of revenue” in their party platform.

In their state platform voted on Saturday, they also said they believe residents "deserve a system of taxation that distributes the tax burden as fairly as possible.” They said the current tax system should be reassessed to "determine if there are alternatives that would lower property taxes.”

They said they kept the wording broad to give our elected representatives latitude to search for solutions.

In response, state Republican Party Chairman Fergus Cullen said what the Democrats agreed on was "code-word for broad-base taxes.”
