New Hampshire’s health commissioner will update lawmakers today on efforts to get hospitals to report their infection rates to the state.

Under state law, hospitals were supposed to begin reporting their infection rates last month, but that never happened. Dr. Jose Montero, state public health director, has said the earliest the information is likely to be released is 2010 because funding was cut from the law when it was enacted.

But Health Commissioner Nick Toumpas says the state is trying to get a system in place as soon as possible. He plans to give lawmakers an updated timeline today.
