New Hampshire hunters killed at least 333 moose in the season that ended Sunday.

The Fish and Game Department released the preliminary count Monday afternoon.

The total is down significantly from last year, when the state issued more licenses and hunters got 482 moose. Moose Project Leader Kristine Rines says that both years, roughly two-thirds of hunters got a moose.

There are six hunting regions, and hunters in the far north fared the best. In two northern regions, four out of five hunters got a moose.

The Southeast region had the lowest success rate, but roughly two out of five hunters there still got a moose.
