NH school districts pondering how to deal with snow days after ice storm

The extra-long holiday break some New Hampshire students got thanks to last month’s ice storm is over. Now it’s time to think about summer vacation.

With some districts already having used up nine snow days, officials are considering various ways to avoid holding classes in July. Districts can ask the state for a waiver so they don’t have to meet the 180 days per year calendar. Others are considering adding 20 minutes to each school day, holding classes on Saturdays or skipping April vacation.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Education said she has not heard of any district submitting waiver requests yet.
