New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner says those wanting to know the date for the state’s presidential primary are going to have to wait for a while longer. And he says that the date could be in December of this year.

Gardner, who alone sets the date of the primary, told a University of New Hampshire audience that he won’t set date before November 2nd, when the candidate filing period ends.

Gardner repeated that he is waiting to see what other states do before announcing the date. State law requires the primary be held at least a week before any other state. Gardner says that while he doesn’t like the idea of holding a holiday season primary, he will do so if necessary.
