Most of the workers laid off this week at the Ethan Allen furniture plant in Beecher Falls, Vt., are from New Hampshire, so the layoffs are causing concern on both sides of the border.
About 50 of the 70 workers losing their jobs live in northern New Hampshire, which already has been reeling from job losses.
Colebrook Town Manager Donna Caron said the layoffs are devastating to the area, where she said some residents already can’t pay their taxes.
Caron said with more people short on money, she’s afraid other businesses in the area will fail.
