Today is opening day for the most popular type of deer hunting in New Hampshire.
Firearms deer hunting season runs through December 7, except in the most northern part of the state, where it closes a week earlier.
New Hampshire’s deer population is estimated at about 85,000 animals. In Vermont, rifle season starts on Saturday and runs through November 30th.
