New Hampshire Sen. Judd Gregg says he had a remarkable working relationship with Edward Kennedy – and a friendship he will always cherish.

Gregg, a Republican, said he and Kennedy served on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, alternating as chairman and ranking member as the party majorities switched.

"During this time Ted was always willing to not only reach across the aisle, but had the unique ability to pull people together to get things done, with both substance and a great sense of humor," Gregg said.

Gregg said Kennedy was undoubtedly one of the single most effective senators in the history of the country.
