Northern New England snowmobilers readying for good season

Snowmobilers across northern New England are hoping the early season snowfalls bode well for the season.

Bryant Watson of the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers says that as it now stands all 6,200 miles of trails will be ready to open on Dec. 16th, the first day of the snowmobile season.

Watson says he’s been involved with snowmobiling since 1965 and he can’t remember a season when all the trails in Vermont opened on the first day.

He says he’s keeping his fingers crossed there won’t be a thaw.

It’s quite a contrast to the last three winters when a lack of snow kept snowmobilers off the trails until later in the season.

Snowmobiling contributes about $550 million to the Vermont economy every year.
