(Host) A group of Norwich Cadets has brought home the gold in their first national competition.

VPR’s Steve Zind reports:

(Zind) Hours of practice paid off for the 19 men and women of the Norwich drill team, the Shock Platoon, which marched away with two first place wins at the New Orleans competition. The event features military units executing precision drills. It included more than 50 universities and military academies.

The Norwich team won first place in the color guard competition. Sophomore cadet Matthew Angoy turned in a top score in individual competition. The Northfield Military school has had a regimental drill team since the 1930s, but this is the first time in over a decade the team has competed for national honors.

For Vermont Public Radio, I’m Steve Zind.
