A longtime activist with the New England Coalition says the nuclear watchdog group may not block the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant from winning a 20-year license extension.
But Raymond Shadis says he hopes his group’s role in raising formal objections to the license extension with the federal Atomic Safety and Licensing Board will mean the plant will run more safely than it would have otherwise.
The board last week heard three contentions — or formal concerns — raised by the New England Coalition in hearings at the courthouse in Newfane.
Those concerns included corrosion of pipes, metal fatigue and the condition of Vermont Yankee’s steam dryer.
