Nursing home regains state approval

A nursing home in central Vermont has regained state approval a month after a surprise inspection got it into trouble.

Health Department inspectors say a subsequent inspection last week found that Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center had fixed problems with bed rails.

A similar surprise inspection last month found that the bed rails could endanger patient safety.

Regulators have paid a lot more attention to the rails attached to institutional beds because of the possibility that patients can get stuck under them and injured.

The Berlin nursing home has bought equipment that should eliminate the problem in the future
