Republican Congressman John McHugh from northern New York is the nation’s new secretary of the Army. The U.S. Senate confirmed McHugh’s nomination by voice vote last night. President Barack Obama named McHugh for the Army’s top civilian spot in June, but approval was blocked by senators from Kansas. McHugh was first elected in 1993 to represent the district that includes his hometown of Watertown.
