New York Governor David Paterson says his decision on who will fill Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat is a few days away.

Clinton can be approved as U.S. secretary of state once President-elect Barack Obama takes office Tuesday, leaving her Senate seat open.

The Democratic governor told CNN interviewer Larry King Sunday night that he’ll announce his decision two or three days after Clinton is confirmed.

Caroline Kennedy has said she’d like the job. Other contenders include state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi and U.S. Reps. Carolyn Maloney and Steve Israel.

Paterson says he hopes to appoint someone who can best help New York during a critical economic time.
