Leahy against war resolution
Senator Patrick Leahy urged his colleagues in the Senate on Wednesday to reject a plan to give President Bush the authority to use military force against Iraq. Leahy says the proposal represents an abdication of power by the Congress because it gives the President “a blank check” to take any action Bush deems necessary. Conflict resolution program
The Barre City Council has unanimously agreed to apply for a state grant that would help start a new conflict resolution program in the city. Organizers say that a “Community Restorative Justice Center” would help people settle disputes in a constructive manner. (AP)

Pharmacy theft
A former pharmacist in Bennington has been charged with taking codeine for his own use. Michael Dufort faces felony counts of embezzlement and obtaining a drug by fraud in connection with the alleged drug diversion. Dufort was a pharmacy manager at the Brooks store on North Street in Bennington from October 2000 until last month. (AP)

Jeffords fundraises for Dean Vermont Senator James Jeffords is helping Governor Howard Dean raise money for his presidential bid. Jeffords says he wants to do what he can to boost the chances of the Democratic governor. He says his assistance is not a formal endorsement because it’s too early for that. (AP)
