(Host) A major employer in Rutland County is moving its corporate staff out of state.

Omya Industries says it is consolidating its corporate management to the Cincinnati area.

That means 50 people who work in the company’s Proctor offices will have to move to Ohio or find new jobs. The Vermont office has served as eastern North America headquarters for Omya since 1976.

Omya says the headquarters move will not affect 250 employees or 150 subcontractors who work in three other facilities in Vermont.

The headquarters is expected to move to Cincinnati by the first of next year.

Omya makes calcium carbonate from marble, which it quarries in Vermont.

Calcium carbonate is an ingredient in a wide variety of products, including paper, paint and plastic.
