One option preferred in state hospital replacement

State officials have visited 21 sites as they consider how to replace the aging Vermont State Hospital.

The Department of Mental Health says the best option is to build replacement space at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Rutland Regional Medical Center and at a new secure facility in Waterbury.

The state was granted a conceptual certificate of need in April that required them to review many options for replacing the century old psychiatric hospital in Waterbury.

Officials are expected to share their analyses with legislators next month.
