Jury selection is moving faster than expected in the trial of the man charged with killing two people in Essex in August 2006.
That means opening statements in the trial of 29-year-old Christopher Williams could come as early as Tuesday afternoon.
On Monday, prosecutors and defense attorneys in Vermont District Court in Burlington winnowed a field of about 100 potential jurors down to about 40.
Judge Geoffrey Crawford says the goal is to select 12 jurors and four alternates.
Williams is charged with shooting the mother of his ex-girlfriend and a local elementary school teacher while looking for his ex-girlfriend.
Williams’ defense team plans to argue he was insane at the time of the shootings.
