Painted flags honor those killed in Iraq

A woman from Newfane is honoring people killed in the Iraq war with some personal art.

Sue Paraspoll has been hand-painting U.S. flags since last year and her work has been displayed in Newfane, Townshend and Brattleboro.

Her goal is to paint one flag for each person killed in the war. That would be nearly 3,400 flags.

But she’s 600 shy of that and struggling to get them done with other volunteers before Memorial Day, when they’ll be displayed in Brattleboro again.

Paraspoll’s son is serving with the U.S. Navy in Iraq and she says she’s also honoring him with her work.
