A legislative committee will continue to take testimony today as it investigates how the state manages sex offenders.
Yesterday Vermont Department of Corrections officials came under tough questioning from lawmakers.
The two day hearing was called after 12-year-old Brooke Bennett of Braintree was kidnapped in Randolph June 25 and her body was found a week later. Her uncle Michael Jacques, a 42-year-old convicted sex offender, has been charged with her kidnapping.
Much legislative scrutiny has focused on how Jacques came to be released from prison and later recommended for release from probation for the 1992 rape of a woman in Rutland.
