Rutland County sheriff’s department wants to communicate with the parents of teenagers who get in trouble with law.

The sheriff’s department is distributing “Parental Alert” stickers that parents affix to the rear window of any family car that their children drive.
If the car is pulled over for any reason and a teen-ager is behind the wheel, the sheriff’s department will notify the driver’s parents.

Sheriff R.J. Elrick says a pilot program has been launched in Proctor and soon will be introduced in West Rutland. He says if it’s successful he may expand it next year.
