A program that helps Vermont National Guard veterans returning from deployments in Afghanistan and elsewhere will get a one-year extension of funds from the Pentagon.

Vermont’s congressional delegation announced yesterday that $2.1 million will pay for health care, marriage counseling, substances abuse treatment and other services for Guard families.

Since 2006, the program has been funded by federal grants obtained by Senator Bernie Sanders.
