Phish Founder Leads Cowbell Record Attempt

Drummer Jon Fishman of Phish led roughly 1,600 cowbell-clanging participants in a challenge to the world record for the largest musical ensemble.

Fishman led what was billed the "World Record Breaking Event Band" Saturday afternoon.

The Burlington Free Press says Fishman and his band mates along with Burlington vocalist Joshua Panda launched into the cowbell-intensive classic-rock song "Time Has Come Today" by the Chambers Brothers. At the right time, the throng of bell-ringers chimed in.

The standing Guinness World Record-certified largest ensemble was 640 people who played in September 2009 in Switzerland.

The Guinness World Record staff will review the Burlington event to see if it sets a new record, or if, in the words of Christopher Walken, the ensemble needs "more cowbell."
