Phone switch-over to delay FairPoint customer service

FairPoint Communications Inc. officials say customers may see some delays in customer service as the company switches from Verizon Communications systems to its own network.

Vermont Public Service Commissioner David O’Brien says the switch-over comes after two delays. He says the company was not ready in September and November to take over the Verizon network in northern New England, which it acquired in a $2.4 billion deal last March.

FairPoint spokeswoman Beth Fastiggi says customer installations will stop Friday and resume Feb. 9.

O’Brien says that in the short term, the result will be some unhappy customers for FairPoint.
