A pilot with ties to Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom has been found dead at the site of his crashed plane in interior Alaska.

Thirty-four-year-old David Lee is believed to have crashed a week ago when he was flying from his home at Manley Hot Springs to a construction job.

The plane was found in heavily wooded, steep terrain 81 miles northwest of Fairbanks.

The cause of the crash has not been determined.

Federal investigators are looking into pilot reports of low clouds and reduced visibility the day Lee took off.

Lee grew up in West Barnet.

His mother, Susan Aiken, of Saint Johnsbury has traveled to Alaska to help with the search.
