Plattsburgh okays lakeside hotel

Plattsburgh’s attempt to reshape its underused Lake Champlain waterfront took a step forward when the city council approved plans for an $11 million lakeside hotel.

Mayor Daniel Stewart said the 104-unit Hampton Inn will include a conference center and spa. And it will help change the image of the city that is home to the now-closed Plattsburgh Air Force Base.

Work on the hotel is not expected to begin until spring.

Tied to the project are plans for new parking downtown, as well as a retail unit and office development planned by Investment Corporation of Vermont.
