The Middlebury Police Department has closed its investigation into the death of 19-year-old Nicholas Garza. A report says he was severely intoxicated when he disappeared, and there’s no evidence of foul play or third-party involvement.

The Middlebury College freshman from Albuquerque, New Mexico, vanished in February 2008 during a winter break at the college after leaving Stewart Hall. He was reported missing five days later.

In May of last year, his body was pulled from Otter Creek. The cause of death was never determined because of the condition of the remains.

In a 30-page report outlining the investigation, Middlebury Police said Garza drank at least 18 shots of liquor at the party where he was last seen and that his blood alcohol content was likely 0.24 or higher.
