It’s been a busy summer for police across Vermont investigating homicides from one end of the state to the other.

There were two murders in June and five more in August. That’s the most killings in a single month in four years.

Earlier this month, the body of a Massachusetts man killed in his home state was found dumped along Interstate 91 in Weathersfield. That brought the number of homicides investigated by police this summer to eight.

Vermont State Police commander James Baker says it’s probably the busiest summer he’s seen in 30 years as a trooper.

Officials say the spike in homicides appears to be a statistical aberration.
