(Host) Police have been investigating a number of phone scams in Vermont.

Officials say there have been several reported incidents of a caller purporting to notify residents about lottery winnings, home security offers or debt collection.

Lieutenant Mark Lauer of the Vermont State Police is urging increased vigilance when being solicited by phone.

(Lauer) "Be very careful about who you give your personal information to.  If you did not make the phone call, to the entity, meaning if you receive an unsolicited phone call, don’t give them your private information or your personal information."

(Host)  Lauer says it’s important to call the police if you feel you’ve been a victim of fraud.

He also recommends registering your phone number on the National ‘Do Not Call’ Registry.
