Vermont electric utilities say they’re making progress in restoring power to customers in the southern part of the state of lost power in ice storm, but more than 6,100 customers are still without power.

And officials say it could be days yet before everyone gets their lights back.

On Monday morning, utilities were reporting just 6,195 customers were without power most in Windham and Windsor counties.

Green Mountain Power President Mary Powell says the damage from the storm that began Thursday and ended Friday, rivals that of the 1998 ice storm that hit northern Vermont.

At its peak on Friday, about 40,000 Vermont electric customers, most in Windham and Windsor counties, were without power.
